Description |
In 1937, the first resident zoologist at Hastings (Jean Linsdale) recorded the presence of birds he saw each day on his rounds at Hastings. He developed a check list, and then those visiting ornithologists could also check off the presence (or in some cases, the numbers) of birds see each day. Various ornithologists from MVZ and elsewhere contributed, and this ended in about 1959 with John Davis. We are working now to renew this effort, to allow us to compare the birds presence, relative frequency, arrival dates in spring, departure dates in fall, etc. We hope this will provide information in association with local climate change. We are seeking volunteers to convert the old data forms (scanned as PDF files) to Excel files so we can enter them into databases for analysis. -Mark Stromberg, May 2010.
